Badges from the Past: Remembering the History of Institutional Care

In an effort to remember the history of institutional care, a Forgotten Australian (with assistance from others) has started collecting badges from South Australian Children’s Homes and institutions for preservation.

Elm Place has connected with the Migration Museum (formerly the Destitute Asylum from 1851 - 1917) who have agreed to archive the badges. The ultimate aim is for the badges to be digitised and uploaded to the Find & Connect website. As many of these records have been destroyed over the years, the badges give us a look into the past.

Badges can be found in op-shops, garage sales and bric-a-brac markets. If you have a badge you would like to donate, please contact Elm Place at: elmplace@rasa.org.au or call 1800 188 118.
