HIV Women’s Health Program
PEACE Multicultural Services runs an HIV Women’s Health Program to support women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are living with or affected by HIV and may have experienced abuse, trauma, displacement, war, conflict, separation and domestic violence. Women living with HIV experience a high level of stigma and discrimination, which adds to their feelings of vulnerability.
Notwithstanding the challenges of living with HIV, many women still go about their daily lives as a mother, sister, friend, partner, community member and employee. Contrary to what may be expected, living with HIV reminds women of the importance of having a voice and standing together to address issues of stigma and discrimination, which is a major barrier to women on many levels. Stigma and discrimination often prevents people living with HIV from connecting with others.
Women living with HIV can live healthy and happy lives with the right support, medication and health care. The HIV Women’s Health Program facilitates connection, knowledge and genuine support for women. The program actively educates the community to reduce violence, stigma and discrimination so that we can all live together peacefully and in harmony.
To receive non-judgmental individual and group psychosocial support, including individual counselling and peer support or if you would like more information, please contact the program coordinator on 8245 8100.
Visit the program website at www.indabahiv.com.au for up-to-date information, resources and services.
