The Relationships Australia SA Elder Relationship Services is a new counselling and mediation service to support families who need help negotiating complex issues related to ageing. With only three months to go, make a booking now to use the service.
The trial sites for the Elder Relationships Services are Canberra and region ACT, Wagga Wagga NSW, Kew VIC, Adelaide SA, Launceston TAS and Moreton Bay QLD. In Adelaide it is currently available at our city location on Frome Street.
Attending the Elder Relationship Service is voluntary and confidential and can be attended on your own, with your partner, as a family, or adult children and parents can come by themselves. Everyone gets the opportunity to express his or her view with the support of an independent practitioner. The Elder Relationship Services is staffed by trained counsellors and mediators with specific skills in delivering services to people experiencing aging-related issues. The decisions made at an Elder Relationship Services session are not legally binding. However, the Relationships Australia SA practitioner can assist you to document your agreements. A session will last for a minimum of one hour; however, each situation is unique and we will tailor a solution to fit your circumstances. Where more than one person is involved, the practitioner may also wish to see each person separately. Some issues are resolved in a few sessions, others take longer. No referral is required, and waiting times for an appointment can vary according to the current level of demand and your availability. Older people and their families are using the Service to:
- prevent or resolve family conflict;
- have difficult conversations;
- plan for the future, including medical, health, financial or living arrangements;
- talk about end of life decisions, including inheritances;
- resolve differences in ways that improve their relationships; and
- make decisions that protect the interests, rights and safety of their families.
The Elder Relationship Services trial will end 1 January, 2017. If you are interested in accessing the service please contact us soon. For more information, please click here or call us on 1300 364 277.
