Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast 10th Anniversary

Violence against women is a serious and widespread problem in Australia, and one that has significant impacts for individuals, the wider community and social costs. However, the problem is ultimately preventable.

White Ribbon Australia is a national, male-led campaign to end men’s violence against women. The campaign promotes primary prevention initiatives and runs programs in schools, workplaces and across the broader community.

White Ribbon Day falls on 25th November, the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women, and events are held annually across Australia. This day marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence ending on 10 December.

The Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast Committee is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The first breakfast event was held in Adelaide in 2008 and has grown significantly since its inception.

This year’s White Ribbon Breakfast will take place on Friday, 24 November at the Adelaide Convention Centre and welcomes internationally acclaimed Canadian guest speaker Dr Michael Kaufman, PhD, co-founder of the Global White Ribbon Campaign.

Dr Kaufman whose innovative approaches to engage men and boys in promoting gender equality and transforming men’s lives has taken him around the world over the past three decades. He has worked extensively with the United Nations and with governments, non-governmental organisations, corporations, trade unions, and universities.

“Confronting men’s violence requires nothing less than a commitment to full equality for women and a redefinition of what it means to be men, to discover a meaning to manhood that doesn’t require blood to be spilled.”

– Michael Kaufman
