Monday, 13 February marks the 9th Anniversary of the National Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples. The Apology was delivered by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008 and gave particular acknowledgement to the Stolen Generations. Relationships Australia South Australia will be involved in several community events throughout the city to commemorate this significant day.
Walk of Awareness: Port Adelaide, 11:45 am
The community will gather on the northern side of Birkenhead bridge, the walk will continue to the southern side to Hart’s Mill where a Kaurna Welcome to Country, storytelling, music and a community BBQ will take place. All are welcome at this special community gathering.

Honouring the Stolen Generations: A Time to Look and Acknowledge – Veale Gardens, 10 am – 2 pm
A community healing event for survivors of the Stolen Generations, their families and supporters will be held in the Southern Parklands, Friday 13 February from 10 am – 2 pm. Meet at Veale Gardens, South Terrace in the city, south of the Conservatory.
This will be a day of recognition, healing and pampering to members of the Stolen Generations, their families and communities with ceremonies, music, art, and storytelling. A community barbeque will also be held.
This event is run by a coalition of community organisations led by Relationships Australia South Australia. If members of the Stolen Generation require transportation to the event, contact us at 8216 5200.
All members of the public are welcome to attend. Please note that this event will be cancelled if temperatures reach above 36 degrees.
