Relationships Australia SA and the Institute would like to acknowledge the Stolen Generation and to say Sorry for the past injustices Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples faced.
National Sorry Day on May 26 2017 marked the 20th anniversary of the handing down of the Bringing Them Home report, which resulted from a National Inquiry into more than 150 years of forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) children from their families, also known as the Stolen Generations.
This year again many events will occur throughout Australia to remind and raise awareness among politicians, policy makers and the wider public about the significance of the Stolen Generations, and the profound and damaging impact that this has had, and continues to have, on ATSI people. It is also a day to celebrate their survival, culture, and community.
Relationships Australia SA in collaboration with many other groups will be putting on event on Friday 25 May 2018 to commemorate Sorry Day at the Stolen Generation Memorial and Healing Garden in Stebonheath Park, Andrews Farm. Everyone is welcome to attend this event which grows each year and includes lots of great activities, food and music. Take a look at this video from 2017 here.
