T4K’s Reflective Parenting Conversations Training

Together4Kids (T4K) is a specialist therapeutic service for children 0-12 years of age who have experienced family and domestic violence and/or homelessness. In addition to providing individual and therapeutic group programs for children and families, T4K also offer professional development and training to staff working in the homelessness and domestic violence sectors.

T4K recently delivered the Reflective Parenting Conversations for Frontline Workers training to the Communities for Children Program, NAHA workers, and staff from the St Johns Youth 110 program.

This training builds workers’ skill and confidence in having therapeutic conversations with parents about parenting. Workers develop their knowledge around the impact of domestic violence, homelessness and other traumas on children, and the power of the parent-child relationship to support healing. They are then guided through seven ‘conversations’, each focused on a particular aspect of parenting, and provided the opportunity to practice, discuss and troubleshoot how the have these conversations with parents.

Feedback from those attending the trainings was exceptionally positive, with workers reporting the training solidified current knowledge and provided new learnings while also giving them a practical toolkit for their work with families.

Looking forward a ‘Reflective Parenting Conversations’ manual by Together4Kids will be made available for workers.
